| DESCRIPTION | This photo is of Oregon's second state capitol, which was begun in 1873 and was destroyed by fire in 1935. It faced west toward the heart of Salem and was patterned somewhat on the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. It had hollow metal girders supporting a massive copper dome and two-story porticoes with Corinthian columns, none of which are shown in this view. It was destroyed April 25, 1935. |
