DESCRIPTIONThis photo is of Salem High, the only high school in Salem, Oregon, until 1936 when the present North Salem High was built. Salem High was built in 1905 and occupied the block bounded by Center & Marion & High & Church streets in downtown Salem. This photo reflects the additional wings which were built on both ends and across the back within a few years. The school was three stories high with dormers above that to accommodate more rooms. It had a state pf the art heating anad venting system, library and laboratories, and a gym, assembly hall and stage on the third floor. In 1934 they had J.C. Nelson, Principal, R.U. Moore, Asst Principal and 41 teachers. The building was torn down c1956 to make way for the Meier & Frank Store.
