| DESCRIPTION | This photo is of the Jason Lee House as it looked at 960 Broadway in Salem in the 1930-60's. It was originally built on the north bank of Mill Creek where the Methodist missionaries had a water-powered lumber and grist mill; other sources say it was built at the above location. It was constructed in 1841 of milled lumber and built in a simple style with a full-length porch the entire length of the building on both levels. Over time it was added to and subtracted from until it was barely recognizable as the same building. The wing on the left was an addition, as was the lower porch on the right. In this photo family laundry is hanging on the upper porch and in the yard, and a 1940's-vintage car is in the yard. The house was boarded up in the 1960's and moved to a temporary location on Front Street and then to the Mission Mill complex where it was restored to its original appearance.
