| DESCRIPTION | Firemen contend with an "almost bad" fire at the former Oregon Stateman newspaper building (note "Circulation" sign above the door) at 215 Commercial Street at the corner of Commercial and Ferry Streets on January 3, 1953. To the left is the Stiff Furniture Company warehouse. The Marion Feed and Seed Company is at the corner of Ferry and Front Streets with Boise Cascade Company's buildings in the background. The tall building carrying an advertisement for Russ Pratt Capital City Transfer Co. (Moving and Storage--Across the Street, Across the Nation) is the Fry warehouse. Trees along the Willamette River and West Salem can be seen in the background. |
