DESCRIPTIONThis photo is of the buildings at Commercial & Trade streets in Salem which would have been occupied by several breweries over the years from the 1880's through 1953. The lower one on the left was built by Adolph, Klinger and Beck in the late 1880's and was known as the Capital Brewery. See numerous photos under that term for its original appearance. After Beck died in 1891 and Klinger sold the business, it operated as the Salem Brewery Associaton, and was expanded and became one of the more modern breweries on the coast. It was reincorporated again and became the Sick's Brewery in 1943. It expanded even more then and additional property was acquired. Sick's was one of only two breweries operating in Oregon by 1949 and was one of Salem's larger taxpayers. The building ws torn down in 1955. This block is the present site of the Conference Center.
