COLLECTIONBen Maxwell
DESCRIPTIONThis is the Jordan Covered Bridge spanning Thomas Creek near the concrete dam which helped to provide electricity to Scio in years prior. The bridge was built in 1937 at a cost of $1850 and had a rounded portal openings when this picture was taken. The bridge was 90 feet in length and had a Howe truss. The World Guide # was 37-22-01. In 1985, the bridge was removed and the pieces moved to Stayton's Pioneer Park where it was rebuilt. In 1994, a electrical short in Christmas lights caused the bridge to burn. It was rebuilt with all new wood in 1998. A concrete bridge now spans Thomas Creek where this old covered bridge once crossed the stream.
