DESCRIPTION
This photograph was displayed as a part of the Diaries exhibit from April to May, 1995 in the Heritage Room at the Salem Public Library. Sally Bush was born in 1860 to Asahel Bush II and his wife Eugenia. When Sally was three years old her mother died, and her father who never remarried, raised the three girls and one boy. Sally attended schools in the east including Moravian Seminary, her mother's alma mater in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Marth Burnham's School in Northhampton, Massachusetts; and graduated from Smith College in 1883 where she was a member of the first graduating class. "Miss Sally" as many called her, presided over the Bush House during her father's life and up until her own death in 1946. Sally Bush was fond of animals and many stray cats and dogs made their homne at Bush House. She also loved trees and flowers and the lawn at Bush House was never mowed until the spring flowers had finished blooming. In this picture "Miss Sally" is standing in front of the house holding a cat in her arms.
