DESCRIPTION
This photograph was displayed as a part of the Railroads in Salem exhibit from June to August, 1995 in the Heritage Room at the Salem Public Library. Southern Pacific engine #1272 is shown sitting on the Salem yard lead in front of the California Packing Company cannery across from the depot on September 12, 1948. This engine was one of the last 0-6-0's to be operated on Southern Pacific property and was not scrapped until November 21, 1960 in Bayshore, California.
