The Guardian Building at corner of State and Liberty Streets in Salem, Oregon, 1902-1905
This building is the original three story Guardian Building at the southeast corner of State and Liberty Streets in downtown Salem, Oregon. Damage from a basement boiler explosion and fire in 1912 resulted in reconstruction that included the addition of two floors. The 1912 fire foreshadowed a November 3, 1947 fire which burned the five story building to a shell. In the photograph, the first floor occupants include: Steiner & Sonnemann Grocers listed at the address, 124 State Street, and Capital Drug Store with the address of 122 State Street. It is estimated that this photograph was taken between 1902 and 1905.
