DESCRIPTION
This is a wide-angle photo of the old Marion County Courthouse at 100 High Street in Salem, Oregon. It was taken in the early part of the 1900s. The photo shows the round dome of the State Capitol in the background and the steeple of the First Methodist Church at the right. Wide lawns and curving sidewalks give a spacious feeling to this corner of High and State Streets. The one evergreen tree on the grounds echoes the rounded tower with its statue of justice on top. Advertisements for the Bligh Theater and Union Oil Company can be seen at the right front.
