Pictured is a copy of a drawing of Robert Newell(1807-1869). The date and source of the photo is unknown. He was a pioneer and trapper who helped bring the first wagon over the Oregon Trail from Fort Hall to the Columbia. He also brought the first wagon into the Willamette Valley and organized the Oregon Lyceum, the first literary society in Oregon. He also platted the town of Champoeg. He was also very active in Indian affairs.
