The grave of Colonel Joseph L. Meek is in the churchyard of the Old Scotch Church in North Plains, Oregon, together with the graves of many settlers. Meek was a famous Oregon mountainman and his interment was moved here from a site near the historic marker on the Sunset Highway (Route 26 between Portland and the Coast). He was born on February 9, 1810 and died on June 20, 1875. He lived 65 years, 4 months and 11 days. This church, which was organized by twelve Scot settlers on November 16, 1873 is also known as the Tualatin Plains Presbyterian Church. In 1876 Jacob Hoover donated an acre of land for a church and cemetery. The building dedicated in 1878 is among the oldest continuously used church structures in the state. This picture of the grave was taken on October 25, 1962.
