Shimanek Covered Bridge over Thomas Creek during final phase of construction in Linn County, 1966
Workers at the Shimanek Covered Bridge perform work on final phases of the construction. The old Shimanek Bridge suffered severe damage from the 1962 Columbus Day Storm and further damage from the flood of 1964. This forced the county to declare the bridge unsafe and to replace it. The county court decided on the "old" covered bridge design rather than the more modern county design. Shimanek Bridge is a 130 foot Howe truss over Thomas Creek. The World Guide # is 37-22-03.
