DESCRIPTION
This is Foster Covered Bridge (World Guide No. 37-22-11+12) in Linn County. It was located at the north end of Foster on the road to Quartzville. The 240-foot long bridge spanned the South Santiam River. It was built in 1940 and consisted of 2 Howe truss spans. One of the spans was 135 feet long and the other was 105 feet long. The total cost to build the covered bridge was $13,000. The sign on the bridge details the load limit and speed limit for traffic. In the background is a dismantled lumber mill. The bridge by Foster Dam was doomed to be destroyed when the dam was completed. The bridge was burned in 1966 so it would not be a hazard to users of the lake waters.
