DESCRIPTION
This is the general store at Elk City as seen on May 12, 1962. It has a Coca-Cola sign over the entrance door and two 76 gas pumps in front of the building. The propietors of the the store at that time were Jack and Ella Scoville. Elk City is at the junction of Elk Creek and Yaquina River and is said to be the first settlement in what is now Lincoln County, which was once part of Benton County. The Newton Post Office was established in 1868 and became Elk City in 1888.
