DESCRIPTION
The Gilkey covered highway bridge and covered railway bridge as they appeared in 1939. The Gilkey bridges spanned Thomas Creek near Scio in Linn County, Oregon. The highway bridge was built in 1939 and has a length of 120 feet and is maintained by Linn County. This photo was taken soon after the road bridge was built. Note the steam engine going through the railroad bridge, which was built in 1920. The railway dismantled this covered bridge in 1962. Gilkey was only been a flag stop, the train stopping only when there was farm produce to pick up. Date of photo: June 1939.
