George Kirby Gay, 1797-1882, was a sailor and Oregon pioneer. His first arrival in Oregon during his years at sea was in 1812. After 12 more years at sea he came to Oregon and California to pioneer, prospect for gold, and work with cattle. Near Wheatland he built the first brick house west of the Rockies.
