Military marching band on State St. in Salem, Oregon
COLLECTION
Ben Maxwell
DESCRIPTION
A military marching band in a parade on State St. (possibly Spanish-American War soldiers or veterans). The Marion County Courthouse is in the upper right-hand corner. Store buildings across the street sport oversize awnings, and high fences which connect stores display billboard-size advertising. The few spectators include small groups of 4 to 6 persons in two locations on the street and numerous female cyclists moving in the direction of the parade. A boardwalk fronts the street on the side of the street that the photograph was taken. The presence of electric power poles in the background date the photograph after 1890 since electricity was not available until the 1890's.
